That Firearms Acquisition Certificate in your possession will no longer be good after January 1st, 2001.
And if you don’t have a certificate, or yours expries before then, you need another bureaucratic piece of paper.
You have to get the new and shiny Possession and Acquisition License.
This license will say what type of non-restricted gun you are allowed to buy. It will have to be renewed every five years.
You’ll find forms at the local post offices. When you send in the form a public safety check will be done on you, based on police and court data. If you fail the check then no license is issued, but you can appeal the ruling.
When you get the license and go to buy the gun of your dreams, be prepared to wait. The storemust phone a government office. They’ll identify the store and you, as well. They’ll have to givethe bureaucrat the registration number of the gun. The registration is then
transferred to you at a cost of $25. More hassle for you. More money for the government.
Finally, you get your gun and the registration will arrive in the mail, later.
