The Bloc Quebecois is flipping over a column in a Native newspaper which called Quebec’s separatist leaders “frogs” who should be hanged for treason.

Gilbert Oskaboose’s column in the June issue of The First Perspective has the headline, “Bring Enough Rope!” “The frogs (separatist leaders) do a lot of yapping about sovereignty for the Québécois but turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to the concept of Mohawk sovereignty,” wrote Oskaboose, adding, “Apparently sauce for le goose is not the sauce for le gander in Le Belle Quebec.” Bloc MP Claude Bachand said the column breaks “the bounds of freedom of expression” and demanded an apology.

First Perspective managing editor Michael Smith said the Bloc’s charges “are a bit over the top, especially when you consider the source.” He said the newspaper won’t apologize but acknowledged that the column may have exceeded the bounds of good taste.
