Gordon Richard Blackned died in a head-on collision while travelling on the James Bay Highway January 10 after he lost control of his vehicle on icy roads.

According to CBC North, the Sûreté du Québec was contacted regarding the collision near kilometre 174 of the highway at around 9:10 pm.

Blackned had been travelling with his four children aged 21, 14, 10 and four as well as their mother, all of whom were treated for minor injuries and shock.

The deceased was the son of Waskaganish Chief Gordon Blackned.
