Federal Environment Minister Jim Prentice will be traveling to Kangerlussuaq, Greenland, on October 30 to sign a much-awaited agreement between the Canadian and Greenland governments as well as the Nunavut territorial government.
The three parties have been at work for many months on the conservation agreement that covers hunting areas shared by Nunavut and Greenland, which includes Baffin Bay and Kane Basin.
The agreement comes about after international controversy over what biologists have described as over hunting between the different parties.
Greenland has slashed its polar bear hunting quota down to 68 bears annually and they are hoping that Nunavut officials follow suit, cutting their numbers from 108 to 64 bears.
