Robert Bosum of Ouje-Bougoumou passed away January 24, only three weeks before his 91st birthday (February 15). He was the oldest man living in Ouje.
Bosum and his wife, Emily Capissisit, were known for their generosity, said his daughter Anna Bosum. They adopted many children of the community in the traditional way and treated them as their own, including a non-Native person.
Harry Bosum remembered his grandfather as a good moose hunter. The Elder was also known for walking great distances to get supplies, before there were roads to his community.
But he had a heart condition and suffered from kidney failure. He was at his daughter’s Ouje home (Alice Shecapio-Blacksmith) when he died. Robert Bosum is survived by his five children, 40 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Ouje-Bougoumou Healing Centre and the Chibougamau Hospital for the excellent care they provided for Robert Bosum.
