The Cree Regional Authority will be getting $435,000 for the renewal of a three-year cultural development agreement, according to the Quebec government.
Line Beauchamp, Minister for Culture and Communications, made the announcement on May 15. The monies will be spent for regional and local cultural development.
“In a land as vast and diversified as Nord-du-Québec, an agreement like this is of particular importance because it provides a solution tailored to the specific needs of the Cree communities,” Beauchamp said in a press release. “With our partners, we are committed to preserving the culture that distinguishes these communities. We also hope to facilitate the work of cultural stakeholders to develop and coordinate tools that are adapted as much as possible to the situation in the north.”
The agreement’s action plan is designed to support and train cultural officers and offer a professional framework to coordinate cultural contributions in the areas of the arts, heritage, language, cultural facilities and archaeology.
It also provides for the development of Cree cultural content on community radio and the Internet.
