Over 1,000 grams of marijuana and hash oil were seized from two men stopped Jan. 13 at Montreal’s Dorval Airport, say Kativik police.

The men were at the airport to catch a flight to Inukjuak, where they work, said chief of police Brian Jones, of the Kativik Regional Police Force in Kuujjuak.

Seized were 942 grams of marijuana and 129 grams of hash oil.

The arrest followed a tip to the Sûreté du Québec that “some people might be traveling with some stuff,” said Jones.

RCMP Cpl. Normand Leblanc, in charge of the team that seized the drugs, confirmed, “We did have an indication that there was a possibility of some drugs that were going to be brought up north on that day.”

Leblanc said a police dog was turned loose on baggage headed north. It spotted three suspicious items of luggage.

The RCMP made the arrests with collaboration from Kativik police and the SQ.

The identity of the men was not given out as they had not been charged yet.
