Over 30 million viewers will be tuning into the Raid des Braves on the world’s largest TV channels, say organizers of the epic race.
At 3,000 kilometres, the 7th annual Raid des Braves is the longest ever, starting in Lebel-sur-Quevillon on Feb. 9 and winding through 17 Cree and non-Cree towns before ending up in Chibougamau seven days later.
The length of the race is one-eighth of the distance around the Earth.
This year the competitors are seven Cree teams and seven non-Cree teams, including one from France.
Daily reports on the Raid will be carried on sports channels in Canada, the U.S., France and other countries. A film crew is accompanying the racers and will shoot a movie about the Raid.
Cultural events and banquets are being organized in the Cree communities along the way. The Raid is passing through Waskaganish, Eastmain, Wemindji, Chisasibi, Whapmagoostui-Kuujjuarapik, Nemaska, Mistissini and Ouje-Bougoumou.
Grand Chief Matthew Coon Come is an honourary co-president of the Raid, along with Ungava MLA Michel Letourneau.
