Newly elected Chisasibi Chief Abraham Rupert said he is feeling much better after suffering a heart attack at the beginning of September. He was subsequently medivaced out for medical attention but returned to the community a few days later, amidst a storm of gossip.

“I had a heart attack. The doctor’s inserted a metal tube into one of my arteries that was clogged. I am doing so much better now and I just need to take it easy for a while,” said Rupert.

Though Rupert was officially elected as the new Chief, he had yet to be sworn into the new position prior to falling ill. Rupert said he will now be sworn in as Chief on September 27 and expects to return to work during the first week of October.
