Four Chisasibi firefighers traveled to Ocala, Florida, recently to train at the state-of-the-art Florida Emergency Training Facility.
David Rupert, Lindy Bullfrog, Maurice Napash and William Tapaitic attended the course.
They participated in an intense 40-hour airport emergency response-training program offered at the facility, the largest of its kind in the U.S. Along with them went Thomas Chakapash, Chisasibi’s public-security director.
The firefighters practiced putting out various types of fires at night and day. The facility boasts a post-crash fuel spill simulator with a 153-foot diametre fuel fire and a simulated Boeing 757 aircraft mockup. It also has a 737 specialized interior fire simulator.
All of the Cree Nation firefighters who attended the class passed with high marks.
