Jonathan Cheechoo won’t be the only Cree from Moose Factory at the March 3 Canadiens game in San Jose. Eastmain’s Marilyn McLeod will be singing the national anthem in Cree, English and French at the game.
“Singing the national anthem at a hockey game has been a dream of mine for a long time,” McLeod told the Nation.
Although McLeod has been singing since she was four years old and often sings at weddings or community events, it is only recently that she is considering pursuing a career as a singer.
McLeod currently resides in Moose Factory, where she works as a family service worker for the MoCreebec Nation.
