Nuudmessanaan is a fishing spot upriver from Waskaganish. Rezolution Pictures International went to visit Johnny Weistche and his wife Clymie. We were there to film them fishing. They had been fishing since August and Johnny listed off almost all the other Cree communities he sent the fish to.
Johnny would check the net in the morning. He and Clymie would then clean, cut, dry and smoke them.
The special treat would be the Shashditshaan (“insides”) Clymie fried up for lunch.
Sanders Weistche is the tallyman for the area. He lives in his cabin with his wife Florrie and son Christopher.
We asked that he make a dip net so we could film him doing so. At the end we filmed him and his son Christopher use it to catch fish by the rapids.
