There comes a time in our lives when someone comes into our lives who makes our whole lives better just because he is your friend, a friend who listens, who comments but does not judge. Yet sometimes we are ignorant ourselves not to fully appreciate them when they are still among us. I am sorry to say that I had a good friend once, a friend who I miss because I didn’t really take the time to let him know that I love him as my friend and he was appreciated for just being who he is.
I know now that love and friendship aren’t things you plan on weekly or by the month. We live by day, as frightening as it is that we may not be among the living the next day, so we must take the time to let each other know that we are appreciated for being a friend.
I thank God for the friend he gave me, a friend whose company I enjoyed every minute I spent with him, a friend’s smile that shone every time you saw him. He was common to us in a way that made us equal. He was not perfect but kind-hearted enough to have our trust, love and friendship. When I went to go see him I knew what he was up to right away; he’d be sitting in front of his TV playing his video games. Now all we have left of him is just memories of the way he was. I believe his time was over with us, that God wanted a soldier with good values of a person’s nature, that he chose our friend to be that soldier.
Love and hate are real in our world. What makes us who we are in life is what we had made for us in our own lives. Also it is possible that we learn things in life from each other. What I learned from my friend is forgiveness. He knew he wasn’t fully respected but had the kindness that gave him understanding to forgive what wrong had been done. That is what I truly loved about him. I can’t expect myself to change overnight. Some things in life we have to work at to achieve just like the way we learned to walk.
I am sorry he left so suddenly without good-bye. He had left with us his good nature that we can all learn from…
Dedicated to the memory of Randy Anderson Wapachee, a good friend who is sorely missed and will remain forever in our hearts always. We love you, from your friends in Nemaska… God bless!!!
