Teachers at Mistissini schools have been seeing lots of changes lately and were pleasantly surprised with one more. It happened during teachers’ appreciation week during February 8 to 13.

Women teachers arrived to find a rose and a note of appreciation from the community of Mistissini.

The men received a glass filled with toffees and the same note. It thanked the teachers for choosing Mistissini to work in. It told how much their services were appreciated.

Chief William Mianscum signed the note on behalf of the Mistissini community.

Then Friday the 13th hit. Traditionally held to be unlucky, this day teachers arrived to find the Cree School Board had struck. Bowls of fruit this time with the inevitable note of appreciation.

“It was wonderful,” gushed one teacher. “We were taken by surprise.”
