Today, as a young student, I would like to speak about my future education. A good education is one of the most important steps so that we will be able to contribute to our Cree Society.

One school subject that I really value is Cree Culture because it teaches me about the traditional way of life. This is very important knowledge for all young Crees if we, as people, are to preserve our old ways.

Unfortunately, too few of my fellow students share my view. For them, Cree Culture day is just an opportunity to have fun in the bush. They’re not interested in believing, or preserving, any of our old customs.

As a matter of fact, many of my classmates don’t even attend class that day. I am proud of who I am and I am going to use my education to improve my skills and knowledge so that I can serve my Community better in the future.

But there are times, youth today, when I can really depend on my Cree Culture classes, because it can help to get my mind off things.

I have no doubt that unless we, young Crees, take the advantage that education offers us, we will not be able to survive as a Nation because of the White Culture that we are exposed to every day.

In conclusion, I would like to encourage young Cree people to prepare now to protect our Culture. One way to do this is by getting a good education and learning more about the damage our culture faces from the white world.

If we don’t us it (our culture), we will lose it!
