Val-d’Or’s Friendship Centre welcomed the announcement of 63 new social housing units made January 26 by Val-d’Or, the Quebec government and the Office municipal d’habitation. The development will be named Les Résidences du Plateau.
“Considering the crying needs for social housing in Val-d’Or, the Friendship Centre wishes to commend the various partners for their efforts that led to this accomplishment, i.e. the addition of housings units for clientele with special needs such as elderly people and people faced with mental health problems,” said Executive Director Edith Cloutier.
Cloutier has been vocal for years about the lack of social housing available in Val-d’Or, particularly for Aboriginals who have suffered discrimination when applying for new apartments.
