A four-year-old boy from Waswanipi is in serious condition at the Montreal Children’s Hospital after a vicious attack by a group of stray dogs.

Jordan Icebound was attacked on the afternoon of February 4 in the community.

“We’re trying to clean up some of the stray dogs in the community right now,” Waswanipi Police Chief Tommy Grant told the Nation. “We don’t know who the owners of these dogs are.”

The boy had surgery on Monday to repair tissue. Doctors found no penetration of the child’s brain. Grant said that he wakes up from time to time, but doctors are trying to keep him in a coma for now so he can heal from his wounds.
