A night of fine cuisine featuring Arctic char and caribou was just what the doctor ordered for the Montreal Native Women’s Shelter. It was the launch of their “Circle of Friends” fundraising campaign on July 24. A special appearance was made by Claude
MacKenzie of Kashtin. As usual he was a crowd pleaser with his music and sense of humour.

All the way from New York came Ojibway global beat artist Wayquay. She was the recent winner of the Best Music Award at the 22nd annual American Indian Film Festival in San Francisco, for her video “Navigate.” Dignitaries on hand included Montreal Mayor Pierre Bourque and Alanis Obomsawin.

The shelter thanks everyone who attended. The shelter helps women who have problems with domestic violence or who are homeless. Those wishing to help out the shelter can call (514) 933-4688 and ask for Jean Stevenson.
